The Reverend Jason Bricker-Thompson
Jason graduated from Hiram College with a B.A. in Religious Studies and Vanderbilt Divinity School with a Masters in Divinity. He served in ministry to youth and families at Kent UCC, was a College Chaplain and Dir. of Community Service and Service Learning at Hiram College, and worked as an Educational Director at Heifer International's Overlook Farm teaching about their mission to end world hunger and care for the earth.
Jason met his wife Monica at Hiram House Camp when they both worked there. They have two daughters (Eileen and Hannah) and have been foster parents. Jason has served on the boards of the Cleveland Christian Home, Little Village Early Learning Center, and Hiram Farm. He was called to serve at Community Church of Chesterland in the fall of 2015. He is very excited to join an energetic, welcoming and theologically progressive community of faith.
Ted Rood leads the music program at Community Church which includes an adult choir, bell choir and periodic performances by the youth.
Ted is also the Vocal Music and Drama Teacher at Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District. He periodically performs in local theatre groups.
Ted received his training at the West Virginia University.
He welcomes vocalists of all levels to join the choir at Community Church of Chesterland.
Dr. Dawn Sonntag
Composer, conductor, singer and pianist Dawn Sonntag is Community Church's Organist and Pianist. She is also an Assistant Professor of Music and heads the theory/composition and vocal/choral areas at Hiram College. Dr. Sonntag has conducted college, community and church choirs of all ages across the US and in Europe, including the Heidelberg International Chorus, Chor des Collegium Artiums and the Oslo University Summer School Choir. As conductor of the Leif Eriksson International Festival Choir and director of music for the Norwegian Memorial Lutheran Church (Mindekirken) in Minneapolis, she prepared and conducted choirs that performed for Norway's Crown Prince Haakon and for other Norwegian musicians and diplomats. Sonntag holds a Doctor of Music Arts degree in voice performance and composition from the University of Minnesota; a Master of Music in choral conducting from the Ohio State University; a Master of Arts in voice performance from Antioch University's McGregor School of the Arts in Tübingen, Germany; a graduate diploma in piano performance with an emphasis in lied and chamber music from the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik in Heidelberg, Germany; and a BM in voice performance from the University of Texas, El Paso.
